Composition of Grid couplings

The Grid couplings is a type of metallic flexible coupling, consisting of two half-couplings, two half-housings, two sealing rings, and serpentine spring strips.

It transmits torque through the serpentine springs embedded in the tooth grooves of the two half-couplings, thus connecting the driving shaft and driven shaft.

Characteristics of Grid couplings

1.Good vibration damping, effectively protecting driving and driven equipment and extending service life

During operation, the Grid couplings transmits torque by the axial force of the driving-end teeth acting on the serpentine springs to drive the driven end, which greatly avoids resonance.

The elastic deformation of the spring strips during torque transmission provides excellent vibration damping for the mechanical system.

Made of high-quality spring steel with a trapezoidal cross-section and specially processed, the spring strips feature outstanding mechanical properties, resulting in a much longer service life than couplings with non-metallic elastic elements (such as elastic sleeve-pin couplings and nylon pin couplings).

2.Large variable load capacity and safe starting

The tooth surfaces of the two half-couplings in contact with the spring strips are arc-shaped.

As the transmitted torque increases, the spring strips deform along the arc surface, bringing the force points acting on the springs closer.

The contact points between the spring strips and the tooth surfaces, i.e., the moment variation, change with the transmitted torque, giving the coupling a variable stiffness transmission characteristic.

Therefore, it can withstand greater load fluctuations than ordinary flexible couplings.

The buffering effect generated when the spring strips deform along the tooth arc protects the matched machinery, especially during machine start-up or under heavy shock loads.

3.High transmission efficiency, low noise and reliable operation

The measured transmission efficiency of the Grid couplings reaches 99.47%, with a short-time overload capacity of twice the rated torque.

It operates safely and reliably, with low noise and good lubrication.

An aluminum alloy housing prevents the springs from being thrown out during operation.

The housing is filled with grease, which ensures excellent lubrication and damps and eliminates noise generated by spring meshing.

4.Absorbs impact and compensates for misalignment through spring deformation

The flexible design of the springs allows multi-directional compensation for unavoidable axial, radial and angular misalignment during installation.

It reduces alignment accuracy requirements, minimizes additional stress caused by poor alignment, simplifies installation and commissioning, and improves system adaptability.

5.Simple structure, easy assembly and disassembly

With few parts, small size and light weight, the trapezoidal cross-section spring strips fit conveniently and tightly into the trapezoidal tooth grooves, making assembly, disassembly and maintenance simpler than general couplings.

6.Strong interchangeability

The Grid couplings adopts various hub designs in line with industrial standards and is interchangeable with other industrial-standard Grid couplings and their components.
